Pictures of this place donāt do it justice. Standing in the center of this room is overwhelming, rows and rows of bookcases on either side, two stories tall, with these gorgeous high vaulted ceilings really makes you feel small. I wish I couldāve taken a photo when it was empty, but I feel like the scale and the symmetry is still captured, even with all the people.

Crafted in 1936 Germany and captured by the US in 1945, the Horst Wessel (renamed USCGC Eagle) is a 295-foot barque used as a training vessel in the United States Coast Guard. One of 2 sailing vessels in the US military.
This is the figurehead leading the ship.

With the conversations in discord around witchy things, my immediate thought was a spell circle type shot. I've always loved the aesthetic of a well intentioned spell set up. While most spells don't have to be done in a circle, circles and symmetry hold a lot of symbolism in the craft.Ā
There is little more satisfying than placing a well balanced, well intentioned, altar set up. Placing the crystals and candles in their spots, the harmony between all the elements, the even energy.
It also brought me great joy lighting the candles with a Gemini lighter āļø just felt on point

Iāve been trying to keep an eye out for symmetry since reading this prompt and was having a hard time finding something. Finally, I was hiking this former railroad track in the mountains and it struck me as really interesting that something in nature would appear so symmetric. The trees on both sides of the path look so similar and the bright summer colors of the forest make you feel like youāre in middle earth. This path takes me to my favorite reading spot and it always feels like Iām in one of my favorite fantasy worlds

āThe Toy Roomā
I was struggling to think of what I wanted to do for this round. Life has been busy and I didnāt really have time or the drive to go find some good symmetrical architecture or nature or something.
An idea came to me then to set up a domino track but then on a long drive home I was thinking about it more and it hit me; I have never had good fine motor skills. My handwriting is atrocious to the point where really I can only read it. I was thinking about all the times I had to stay inside from recess and go to therapy outside of school just to work on handwriting. Tracing the letters and spacing them perfectly. While I know the intention was good, everyone was nice to me and very helpful, and it ultimately it did help overall⦠I thought to myself āthatās not what being a kid is aboutā.Ā
As a kid youāre meant to make mistakes, try your best, and let your imagination run wild. I wanted to capture that idea so I staged this photo. The idea is a more childish imperfect version of symmetry. The things match on both sides. The domino track follows a symmetrical path with the run half way done and the block falling in the arch of the house. The house has mostly the same blocks on each side but the trees are different. Everything is the same, but things are at slightly different angles, slightly different on each side but overall the feel is symmetrical. I knew these imperfections with come with the process, a natural result of my inability to create something perfectly symmetrical which is exactly what I wanted to capture.
I wanted it to be chaotic like a childās room too. The pompoms in the foreground and sides add some color and chaos to the otherwise mostly symmetrical scene. I wanted it to be full of color and imagination as a play room should be. A messy toy room where a kid has cleared out the toys and junk from a spot to work on an idea they just had.
Not to sound too pretentious or artsy with all this, but I had fun with it and wanted to the take away to be that mistakes are okay. Imperfections are okay, and yet you can still make and do great things. Things that meet the requirements in your own way.
